Still amazing!

It still hits us a lot how amazing it is that we are actually here. Sometimes it feels too good to be true. It is such a joy to be able to serve these children! They are such sweet, loving kids in need of love and guidance. In the past few weeks I’ve had the opportunity to go out to Talanga to spend more time with the kids and staff there. I have so loved having this chance to get to know the kids better and get a glimpse of what our life will soon be like.

This month has been filled with activities because it is the month that they celebrate their independence. On the First of September, they celebrate Flag Day. At 5:30 in the morning, Rick Arthur, from Calvary Christian Church, and I headed to the park in Talanga to celebrate with the kids. There were kids representing many of the schools in Talanga and they had traditional dances, songs, prayers and of course the raising of the flag (along with a gun salute where they actually shot their guns and I jumped about 2 feet in the air. I was not quite ready for that!).

Last week they had a parade in town to celebrate a program called Educatodos. This is an educational program in which people can receive schooling at a faster pace, completing 2 years worth of work in one year. It is SUCH a neat program and we have about 8 kids and 5 adults that work at the project that are currently enrolled in classes. I love that it is being offered to the adults too and that they can help the kids in the project, as well as their own families, realize the importance of education. Anyway, the parade was really neat! It was at dusk and everyone had a torch that they marched with and it was just beautiful. We marched to the park where they had an event that was VERY similar to the Flag Day celebration, but there was something special about this one! The students from our school performed, so that made it way better! smile So here is a video of the parade!

I’ll leave you with that for now, but coming soon:
-Celebration of the day of the child on Saturday September 10.
-Honduran celebration at the school tomorrow, September 12.
-Manuelito Dinner Wednesday the 14
-Independence Day Thursday the 15

It’s a big week down here as you can see. So get ready for some more updates!
